Hey, builder! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Tower defense, coworking and pixel-art fighting walk into a newsletter. All three games built with Phaser, all three worth your time: Tower Legends has bosses that decide their own strategy, Office Town is where people go to actually get things done together, and Sword Duel has the frame data to back up its fighting game claims.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fresh From the Web This Week

ยป ๐Ÿฐ Tower Legends: a 100-level tower defense with bosses that think for themselves

Tower Legends is a solo-built tower defense game with 100 levels across four biomes and enemies that actually fight back. Some buff each other as they advance, some attack your towers directly, and bosses decide for themselves whether to tear down your setup or rush the base. A boss fight every fifth level, four tower classes, switchable targeting priorities mid-fight, and a pre-level preview so you can plan before the wave hits ๐Ÿฐ

Built with Phaser by a first-time solo developer in their spare time. There's also a skill tree split across five categories and run-changing loot to keep things interesting across all 100 levels. Coming to Steam, wishlist open now ๐Ÿน

ยป ๐Ÿข Office Town: a cozy coworking space built with Phaser, free in your browser

Office Town is a coworking and body-doubling web game built with Phaser 4 by Katelyn, a Canadian developer who found herself most productive working alongside others โ€” so she built a space for exactly that. Log in, find a desk, and work alongside people studying, working remotely, or just getting through their to-do list at home. Timer and Pomodoro sessions, in-game chat, custom characters, a cafรฉ for coffee breaks, and whiteboards to leave feedback for the creator โ˜•

Only five weeks into development, so the community is still small, which makes it a great time to join and help shape it. Come work alongside the early crowd, leave feedback, and jump into the Discord to connect with others. Coming soon: public groups so you can create your own space with friends or coworkers. Free in the browser ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ

Analytics on Live Data Without Leaving Postgres

When analytics on Postgres slows down, most teams add a second database. Then come the pipelines, the sync jobs, and a copy of your data that's always a little behind.

TimescaleDB takes a different approach: extend Postgres instead of splitting away from it. Hypertables partition your data automatically as volume grows. Hypercore compression cuts storage up to 95%. Continuous aggregates keep dashboards live without re-querying everything.

CERN runs Postgres this way for sensor data from the Large Hadron Collider.

No split architecture, no pipeline lag, no new query language to learn. Same SQL, same drivers, same tools.

ยป โš”๏ธ Sword Duel: a pixel-art fighting game with real frame data, built with Phaser

Sword Duel is a pixel-art fighting game built with Phaser by ilyesB โ€” and it's not a casual button-masher. Startup, active and recovery frames, proper hitboxes and hurtboxes, blockstun, hitstun, guard breaks. The fundamentals are all there for players who want footsies that actually matter โš”๏ธ

Three ways to play: local on the same keyboard, vs CPU at multiple difficulty levels, or online peer-to-peer over WebRTC with no server needed. One player shares a 4-letter room code, the other joins, and you're duelling. Free in your browser, no install ๐ŸŽฎ
