Phaser World Issue 242

The Phaser Game Agent is here π
We said it was coming, and this week we can finally show it. Describe a game, walk away, and play it when it's done: code, art, and sound, all generated for you. This is what we've been building toward πΎβ¨
Also this week: a new Phaser Editor v5 plugin template, the Reddit hackathon is still live with 1,500+ devs already in, a quick tutorial on updating Phaser 4 safely, and two games worth your time: Hatchlings and Weeds & Wires, #8 at Gamedev.js Jam 2026.
Press start. Let's go! π
This week:
β Introducing the Phaser Game Agent: Describe a Game, Walk Away, Play It
You describe the game. The agent writes the code, generates the art, adds the sound, and emails you when it's done. No prompting loops, no debugging, no setup. It works across 2D arcade, vector, and real 3D β built on a brand-new Phaser engine designed specifically around how the agent thinks. This is what a decade of Phaser was building toward π
Every finished game gets its own shareable link, playable instantly in the browser. Use it to prototype an idea in minutes, share a concept with a client, or just see what the agent does with a single wild sentence. And if you want to go deeper, the full open-source framework and Phaser Editor are still right there βΊοΈ
β Phaser Editor v5 Plugin Template: Build Your Own Editor Extensions
The Phaser Editor v5 plugin template is a minimal starting point for building your own editor extensions: custom commands, file editors, Inspector properties, Outline integration and more. A complete Todo editor example ships with it so everything you need to copy from is already there. The bundled types/*.d.ts files give you the full editor API without needing a checkout of the source π οΈ
It works well with AI coding assistants, ships with an AGENTS.md entry point and a Cursor skill out of the box. Plain TypeScript, no webpack, no runtime dependencies. If you build something, share it in the Phaser Discord π«°
π Phaser x Reddit hackathon: you can still join 1,500+ devs and win up to $15,000
In case you missed it last week: the Phaser x Reddit hackathon is live and there's still time to enter. Over 1,500 developers have already signed up π
Ship a game to millions of Reddit users and compete for a share of $40,000 in prizes β including $15,000 for the best app and a dedicated $5,000 Best Use of Phaser award. A Devvit Phaser template on GitHub gets you started in minutes. Submissions close July 15 β‘οΈ

Β» Tutorial: How to Update Phaser 4 Safely to the Latest Version Without Breaking Your Project
Scott Westover put together a short tutorial on updating Phaser 4 safely, whether you're on a CDN-based setup or loading from NPM. Clear, practical, and worth five minutes of your time if you've been putting off the update π€
There's also an update script in the repo that handles everything automatically from the command line. No excuses now π«Ά
Hatchlings is a relaxed browser game where you hunt for eggs, complete collections, join seasonal events, and connect with other players. No ads, no in-app purchases, something new every day. Thousands of collections across nine rarity levels, from common to Super Rare. Some eggs hatch into pets. Built with Phaser, runs entirely in the browser π₯
The community is genuinely active, and there's no single way to play: hunt for completion, climb the global rankings, collect pets, or just enjoy the social side. Free to play, no download required π£

Β» Game: Weeds & Wires, a card-based farming sim that ranked #8 at Gamedev.js Jam 2026
It's 3026. Land is scarce, rent is brutal, and the Bureau of Productive Farming evicts you after three days in debt. Weeds & Wires is a card-based farming sim inspired by Stacklands: drag cards to plant, water, harvest, and sell. Build automated water systems, manage energy, and watch the daily market prices β because what you sell and when actually matters. Built with Phaser in 13 days by a three-person team πΎ
Out of 495 entries at Gamedev.js Jam 2026, it ranked #8 overall, #5 in Audio, and #7 in Gameplay. Oh, and Toby the blue bird is always watching. Free to play in your browser π¦
