Phaser World Issue 240

In partnership with

Lots happening this week 🀫πŸ”₯

We've been hinting at something big and today we're sharing the story behind it. The Phaser Game Agent: an AI agent you ask for a game and get one. Still in internal beta, but you can go behind the scenes right now. And we're also cooking up an event that any Phaser game dev will want to be part of. More on that very soon πŸ‘€πŸ«Ά

Also this week: a new Phaser Desktop tool that generates game-ready textures in seconds. A video about the dev who won $15,000 at a Reddit hackathon with his very first game. Two Gamedev.js Jam entries that show what a small team can ship in 13 days. A deep dive into custom shaders in Phaser 4. And a complete beat em up built with Phaser and Codex, not a single line of code written by hand.

Everything below. Go get it πŸ‘‡

⭐ How We Built the Phaser Game Agent: ask for a game, get one

This is what we've been building. The Phaser Game Agent is an AI agent you can ask for a game and actually get one. Not a prototype, not a tech demo. A playable game, with art, sound effects and a chiptune soundtrack, built from scratch by an agent that knows Phaser inside out πŸ‘Ύ

To make it possible, we rebuilt Phaser from the ground up for an AI audience. A new framework, a library of game components that compounds over time, and Claude managed agents doing the heavy lifting inside isolated sandboxes. Currently in internal beta. The full story of how we built it is out now πŸ‘€

🎨 Generate game-ready PBR textures in seconds with Phaser Desktop

Your game's terrain deserves better than a repeated flat texture. Seamless Texture Generator inside Phaser Desktop lets you describe exactly what you need and generates a full PBR texture set in seconds. Base color, normal, roughness. All seamless, all ready to tile 🎨

Preview it live before committing, then load it into your project without leaving your workspace. The kind of tool that used to take hours of searching online πŸ–₯️

🎞️ How a First-Time Dev Won a Reddit Hackathon With Phaser

A couple of weeks ago we shared Levasho's story in the newsletter. Now we've put together a video with the story behind the $15,000 win, told through his own words πŸŽ™οΈ

The dev who built his first game ever, learned Phaser from scratch, and walked away with a Reddit hackathon grand prize. An inspiring watch for any indie game dev πŸ˜ƒ

… and watch our socials. Your turn might come sooner than you think πŸ†

πŸ”₯ Fresh From the Web This Week

Β» Kobots: Lemmings-Style Puzzle Game from Gamedev.js Jam 2026

If you grew up playing Lemmings, Kobots will feel instantly familiar. A squad of small robots marching straight into walls and off ledges unless you stop them. Place ropes, ziplines and fans before they march to their doom, then hit play and watch your plan unfold 🏰

Built with Phaser by a three-person team in just 13 days for Gamedev.js Jam 2026, Kobots ranked #7 out of 495 entries. One of five Phaser-built games to crack the top 13 overall πŸ¦–

Β» Phaser 4 Custom Shaders: Add Visual Effects to Any Game Object

Want a damage flash, a heat haze or a glitch distortion in your game? That's shader territory. Phaser 4 has reworked the Shader API from the ground up: cleaner config system, explicit uniform handling, and simpler GLSL loading. No more pipeline wrestling πŸ’‘

Whether you're writing your first GLSL shader or migrating one from Phaser 3, this guide walks you through everything. Config, uniforms, textures, file loading and the new template system. All with clean, readable examples πŸ’»

Analytics on Live Data Without Leaving Postgres

When analytics on Postgres slows down, most teams add a second database. TimescaleDB by Tiger Data takes a different approach: extend Postgres with columnar storage and time-series primitives to run analytics on live data, no split architecture, no pipeline lag, no new query language to learn. Start building for free. No credit card required.

Β» Vibe Code a Complete 2D Beat Em Up Game with Phaser 4 and Codex

Starting from a blue square on a black screen, this tutorial by Chong-U builds a fully polished pirate beat em up using Codex and natural language prompts. Not a single line of code written by hand. AI-generated backgrounds, enemy AI, health system, wave progression, screen shake, particle effects and more πŸ₯Š

The secret weapon: Phaser skills files that give Codex deep knowledge of the engine. Shorter prompts, fewer corrections, better results. One of the most complete end-to-end vibe coding examples available for Phaser 4 πŸ’‘

Β» Deus Ex Machina: Puzzle-platformer born from Gamedev.js Jam 2026

The robot walks on its own. Your job is to place directional arrow blocks to guide it to the orb, avoiding spikes and gaps along the way. Simple to pick up, genuinely challenging as levels progress. The kind of puzzle design that makes you feel clever when it clicks πŸ€–

Built with Phaser in 13 days by a two-person team, Deus Ex Machina won the YouTube Playables challenge and ranked #2 in the Phaser Challenge out of 495 entries ⚑

πŸ“© 20,000 Devs Want to See What You've Built

Games, tutorials, tools, videos. If you made it with Phaser, we want to feature it. Completely free, always. Drop us a line and let's get it in front of them πŸ‘‡

Happy coding! Awesome things coming… 🀩
