Phaser World Issue 234

In partnership with

Hey there, game dev! ๐Ÿ’

April was wild. Phaser 4 launched and the community went all in. Hello, May ๐Ÿ‘‹

Phaser Editor v5 just landed with AI built right in, Phaser 4.1.0 is already out with serious rendering improvements, and we are knee-deep in Gamedev.js Jam entries trying to keep our jaws off the floor ๐Ÿ˜‰
Also: a dev who nearly ghosted us for Godot (๐Ÿ˜), a mining game with 3 million plays, and a first-timer who looked at trigonometry and said sure, why not ๐Ÿ’œ

Good stuff below ๐Ÿ‘‡

โญ Phaser Editor v5 Just Landed and Your Workflow Will Never Be the Same

As we've been teasing in previous issues and across our socials, AI is now built right into the editor: a built-in Chat compatible with Gemini, Claude, OpenAI and OpenRouter, an MCP Server with 40+ tools connecting to Claude Desktop or Cursor in one click, and Enterprise Constraints so designers and devs can finally work together without breaking a thing ๐Ÿš€

Full Phaser 4 brings a visual Filters system with Glow, Shadow, Blur and more, plus Spine 4.2 with animation event data ready to go ๐ŸŽ‰

Check out the Release Notes.

โญ Phaser v4.1.0 "Salusa" Is Out and the Rendering Engine Just Got a Whole Lot Smarter

Codenamed after the harsh prison world from Frank Herbert's Dune, this first major point release is all about rendering quality: Dynamic and Render Textures now regenerate mipmaps after updates, and the new getPaddingCeil() method fixes that subtle but annoying quality loss from fractional filter padding values ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

On the dev side, Layer now properly extends GameObject, the ESM build finally supports standard import Phaser from 'phaser' syntax, and the missing Class constructor stops breaking plugins for good. Community-reported fixes included โš™๏ธ

๐Ÿ† Gamedev.js Jam 2026 Is Over and We Are Playing Through the Phaser Entries

The jam is done and voting is officially open! The community went all in on the Machines theme and we are currently going through every game built with Phaser for the Build it with Phaser Challenge. Honestly? The creativity this year is something else ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Voting runs until May 9th and is open to all participants, while a panel of experts reviews entries separately for the challenges. Winners get announced on May 10th, so head to Itch.io, play some games, and cast your vote ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

ยป Learn Phaser 4 from Scratch with Zenva's New Beginner Course

If you have been looking for a structured way to get into Phaser 4, Zenva Academy just dropped a Complete Beginner Course covering everything from project setup to the scene lifecycle, sprites, and game objects. No prior experience with Phaser needed, just basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript ๐ŸŽ“

And if you want to go further, the Phaser 4 Mini-Degree bundles 5 courses and 9+ hours of content covering physics, player input and cross-platform game logic, with a certificate of completion included. Not sure yet? There is a free preview on YouTube so you can try before you buy ๐Ÿ™Œ

ยป AlleyQuest: An Interview with the Dev Remaking a 1983 Classic with Phaser Editor

Dries van Gijsel is rebuilding AlleyCat from scratch as AlleyQuest, five buildings, unique rooms, missions and enemies, all made with Phaser and Phaser Editor. In this interview he talks about how the Prefab system completely transformed his workflow and why he almost ran off to Godot (and why Phaser won in the end) ๐Ÿ˜„

He also gets candid about the biggest challenges, the always-online frustration, and his dream feature request for the editor. A great read if you are building something of your own with Phaser ๐Ÿ‘€

ยป Mine8: the Most Played Game on Verse 8 with Over 3 Million Plays

Mine8 by Snack Games is a stage-based ore mining game available free on Verse 8, a platform where anyone can create and publish games using AI and natural language prompts. The concept is simple: swing your pickaxe, collect ores, beat the clock. Simple enough to pick up in seconds, deep enough to keep you going past level 200 โ›๏ธ

What makes it interesting is that it was built on a vibe coding platform and became its most played title with 3 million plays and 1,100 likes. Pickaxes, skill trees, upgrades and even offline mining included. Go on, just one more stage ๐Ÿ˜„

ยป Corner Cutter: How a First-Time Game Dev Built a Browser Racing Game with Phaser and a Lot of Trigonometry

Frank from Happy Coder had never built a game before. What he did have was years of driving experience, a clever physics concept, and Phaser with TypeScript. The result is Corner Cutter, a browser racing game built around the optimal racing line: tether to a pylon, swing through the bend, hit the apex ๐ŸŽ๏ธ

He documented the whole journey on YouTube, from rectangular box prototypes to a full neon vaporwave aesthetic with a custom SVG car and a real Japanese touge track. A great watch for anyone curious about what first-time game dev with Phaser actually looks like ๐Ÿ‘‡

The best prompt engineers aren't typing. They're talking.

Power users figured this out early: speaking a prompt gives you 10x more context in half the time. You include the edge cases, the examples, the tone you want โ€” because talking is fast enough that you don't skip them.

Wispr Flow captures everything you say and turns it into clean, structured text for any AI tool. Speak messy. Get polished input. Paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or wherever you work.

89% of messages sent with zero edits. 4x faster than typing. Works system-wide on Mac, Windows, and iPhone.

๐Ÿ“ฉ 20,000 Devs Want to See What You've Built

Games, tutorials, tools, videos. If you made it with Phaser, we want to feature it. Completely free, always. Drop us a line and let's get it in front of them ๐Ÿ‘‡

Happy coding, and see you next week! ๐Ÿช
